I'll prepare the site for Tour de France. It will take a day or two after the start to get everything in sync, but expect it to be up and running on Saturday or Sunday.

A quick TODO list, for my own reference:

Wind update times.
World map with France as island.
Boat polars, including pro/broken sails.

Boat polars for the tdf:
http://zezo.org/tdf/polars/

A lot of quirks:

There is Code Zero sail, but no name for it (in the GUI) and strange polars. As a whole Genoa/N2/C0 are like jib N1/2/3 with peaks at different wind speeds that don't match the description at all.

The Gennaker is in fact Light Spinnaker.

Platform is still br0ked and unresponsive in the first minute after position update.

Speeds are still taken from the lower polar diagram, but now there is 0kt data point with 0kt boat speed. Yet to be seen what happens to boat below 4kt.

Polars are taken more or less from the official vpp document, and have less wind speeds than in VOR:

0;4;6;8;10;12;14;16;20;25;30;40;50

Wind arrows are centered at half degree positions. No more. WTF?

Pro sail names make much more sense in French:
Light/Medium/Heavy Genoa + Light/Heavy Spinnaker.

Cvetan,

where can I found the specific map for TDF, if there is any.
If I use the regular europ map, when I enter my boat name (Belladonna), your program reverts me to the leg 10 of the VORG.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong, pse explain, tks.

can you publish link to TdF?

I've just made the beta version available:

http://zezo.org/tdf/

The best sail is not shown correctly and the sail names if shown correspond to VORg.

The polars currently use only regular sails, but the PRO difference is less than in the VOR, so tactics should be useful even for pro sails.

Wind changes will be fully in sync in few hours - right now 23/11h is still assumed.

Few more things left for the following days - map of France as island and the full sail functionality. I'll try to find some time for that in the following days.

Borders added to the chart, and some amount of ground removed from the collision raster, but it's not very exact, so take care.

It still remains to be seen if UG fix the polars, so you don't get stuck with zero speed in less than 4Kt wind as was the case few days ago. Otherwise sailing over Europe is going to be interrupted by a lot of 12-hour rests ;) Let's see what happens to the current leaders in that 3.8 square.

BTW the morning wind change uses the 0Z+9h GFS output instead of +6h. The evening one uses 12Z+6h.

Thank you for your great routing program. It's just got me to 3rd place on the 2nd leg of the TDF.

Are you planning to support the La Solitaire du Figaro 2009? I hope so.

Thanks for the feedback.

At least 5 of the first 10 boats have used the site during this leg, and it's really nice when players drop a note to say it without fear of being accused of 'cheating'.

It's sad that MP disapproves the use of external tools. In my view those tools make the game more interesting.

I have been worried about boats turning into sheep for a while, but that did not last long. People will follow the leaders anyway, as we have seen in this leg with 90% of the players going East of the alps and still trickling over Germany.

It has been demonstrated both by robots and human players in the VOR that blindly following the leader can get you into the top 10, but now (being #2) I can be quite positive that the position of the first 4 boats represents the effort and persistence displayed by their skippers.

Best regards,

Big Bird ;-)

Hi Cvetan, last year I make this race, I was using Vrtool and I find a map of France as island on : http://www.tecepe.com.br/nav/chartlib/france2pts.zip
If it's can help u
U're welcome

Thanks. I supported that race one year ago, and already have such map for the ground collision algorithm. On the chart itself you just follow the country borders.

Hi, I can't remember where I read that, but I think this next Tour de France won't run over land this year.
