Hey zezo, has VR decided to go in competition to you with those mobile routing apps one has to pay for ;-)?

I think VR never liked Zezo!

Not "never". Only since I refused to sell them my router ;-)

That could be me providing the weather router for VR, but I'm free spirit and like competition. That's how my father taught me. And it's a long story - refusal was 10 years prior to the current events.

So, for 10 years they've wanted to have a router and it took them this long to accomplish something?

Well, for starters, it doesn't work that well. As its first test, I gave it a target between the ice limit and Kerguelen and it said, couldn't compute. Route crossed the ice limit.

Every day they just make you look smarter Cvetan.

Yes, took them about 10 years. I guess they haven't paid the current provider either, just exchanging services for advertisement.

Their router runs client-side in the nightmarish virtual-machine-in-javascript-running-bytecode Unity engine, which is at least two orders of magnitude slower that native code.

To get comparable result it would have to run for few minutes, so they cut some of corners. First, the step looks bigger. Then who knows.

And then the main difference is I DO use my own program. It seems that nobody at VR is playing competitively - otherwise they'd get mad at all the bugs and get them fixed.

I've had the same experience. With SailGrib4VR I lost about 1h since the cap of the good hope on the leaders. I am ranking around 4000. Can you tell me the data that can be set in "Expert Mode" in SailGrib4VR to imitate your simulator. The following could be set: Time step, Overall sweep angle, Bearing angle.
SailGrib4VR would be quite practical, it transmits the calculated routing directly to VR.
Of course I use zezo, but also Qvtlm.

I can't give proper advice about another router (which I haven't even seen). Just some general thoughts.

Everything is balance between execution time and precision. 1 hour time step would be at least 6 times faster than 10 minute step. I use variable step. I use 10 minutes in the beginning to get smoother result, then it increases.

Sweep angle is probably the side angle from the bearing to destination that's considered for sailing. You could do 360 degree isochrones, but it's unlikely that sailing in the exactly opposite direction will get you anywhere (unless there is an obstruction, but that has other issues)

Ideally you should be using fixed TWA in upwind/downwind conditions, sometimes even on a broad reach sometimes where polars have dips in them. SO the idea of auto waypoints is broken.

Even if you set them 10 minutes apart the weather will drift away and the TWA will differ from the intended.

It could be list of TWA programmings, but then the position will drift over time.

Human intervention is required in all cases.

There is no possible comparison !!! Zezo is unique and the best. Thank you very much Cvetan for what you did and do for us with your router.
