Seems that VR is collecting 10 years of mistakes (bugs, lack of stability, poor communication, etc) and throwing all of them in one of their major events.

Somehow I love this guys, they never fail to surprise me

I think they haven't been expecting this amount of participation. We are now at 840 kboats.

At the same time, they are handling the issues way better than before. Some of you can probably remember the wonderful moments with Volvo when the whole game and all boats stopped, which messed all routing. Did they arrange a restart then? And then we had the towboatgate.

Now they have taken care that boats keep moving and programmed instructions are implemented, plus apparently you can also send commands which will be implemented retroactively. It seems like the problem is mostly with the UI.

OK, there are the randomly disappearing programmations and other glitches, but IMHO they have come far.

(I reserve the right to change my opinion if and when someone proves me wrong, in the spirit of "my opinions may have changed but not the fact that I'm right":)

As long as boats keep moving, pre-programmed routes are executed and new instructions are executed retroactively, then I'm fine with it.

If weather updates fail or are delayed or if there are periods where you have to ascertain your position by dead reconning or you can't see what the competition is doing, well, that just adds to the realism of the simulation.

At the end of the day, you are going to find the best navigators in the lead.

I guess to prevent the server from crashing.
