I'm undecided about joining the Mini-Transat. I'm worried that it will take more time and attention than I can give it with an upcoming business trip. If I quit halfway through, will that impact my VSR points?

I noticed a couple of guys facing a poor result in the Transatlantic record ground themselves on Landsend. Was that a deliberate strategy to not get a result and not have to pay to terminate the attempt?

A DNF in VR is DNF. No way around it.

The groundings in the transatlantic record may have been boats running on credits, not full pack, waiting near the finish of a poor run, collecting cards... so that they can finish the race and re-start ASAP without having to spend credits to restart, when the next good starting window occurs. I do that with a lot of the shorter records... I doubt we'll see people doing it in NY-SF, though... It takes too long.

It was patplon6 and Spektakel, who were 1 and 2 in the ranking at the time. They were on pace to beat their previous times, as was I, until a ridge near the finish killed it. I think it took me 24 hours to cover the last 200nm. They just beached themselves. This was within a few days of the close of the race.

In record attempts only the best run counts, so abandoning subsequent attempts does no harm.
