The Full Pack does not indicate that it includes unlimited cards. Will it be like that, or is it a mistake, like the previous time?

The pack of 5 equal cards recovers the rhythm of 10 minutes.

"unlimitedCards": false

race config sez.

It might be a mistake. Might be marketing experiment.

Post by iconPost by toxcct | 2017-12-26 | 13:48:29
Yeah, marketing experiments... stupid as always.

Like not being able to fix the heading before the beginning of a race that starts at 3:00 in the middle of the night.
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2017-12-26 | 14:49:11
HDG you could fix ;)
ATW also, but than you don't know the heading your boat will start at ...
Post by iconPost by LumbaSLO | 2017-12-26 | 14:42:26
They just added (& unlimited cards for race or leg).
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2017-12-26 | 14:48:07
they must be feeling like gods at VR-hq or maybe BOFH ...
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-12-26 | 15:42:09
The hostname of my workstation at my first admin job 20 years ago was bofh.inet.bg ;-)

bofh.spnet.net still resolves 10 years after I quit.

But with VR it's more like the the PHB + the PFY.

Post by iconPost by Inicio | 2017-12-26 | 18:21:00
Now, unlimited cards.
And the solo pack is returned to 1 hour rhythm.
AAAAARGH!

BOFH, it's 10 years I do not hear it.... So true so fun
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-12-27 | 20:25:54
Simon still has a regular column @theregister but there are only so much stories that can be told.
Post by iconPost by lorenzo | 2017-12-27 | 20:39:13
I loved when BOFH deleted mailboxes :-)
amazing after 20 years how it is so actual, new technologies but the end user is still the same

Hi Cvetan, did you survive Christmas parties?
if you have a spare minute, could you add Hong Kong as destination on the map, and maybe some usefull waypoints.
Have a nice New Years Eve!
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-12-28 | 13:25:44
Added, but Hong Kong is not a good initial destination as it's 180 degree opposite to the initial heading. Wait for a day or two before routing for it.

There is a slight chance the best route goes east of Solomon Islands and it will require early routing East, but it's too early to tell.
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2017-12-28 | 13:28:09
thanks, maybe take a bold guess and round Australia the other way round.
no buoys in between, so it seems allowed
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-12-28 | 13:36:42
It's very upwind after Jakarta. But could work with some luck. Click Ignore Gates to check the possible outcome (I've placed the limit there on purpose, to avoid routing West to some extent)

Hello community,
I have set up a table that allows you to enter your times of passage on the different caps.

Go here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LMD9pkPUAX-QM1yR_Zor5ELd0cFn0jXx1F221zizxCM/edit#gid=1739723338

For the oldest of you, you will be able to find the history of previous record races.

Sorry, I was wrong topic, it was for information the times of Jules Verne

Post by iconPost by WoKeN | 2018-01-02 | 11:33:31
your info is wrong. for instance you specify my time to Gate 1 as 6j10h which is wrong, it should be 6d04h. I filled it in myself on your file but strangely it got changed (by who?) so I deleted my info on your site.

I suggest other competitors should check their info also on this site

have a great start everyone !!

Hi fellow skippers. Happy New Year and wish you all the best. I wake up early morning as my local time was 5 am for Leg 4 start. Shortly after the start, I realized that my boat name is changed to randomly Guest49315 name instead of andrel. A couple of days ago I made usual full pack Paypal 14.99 payment. WTF?

You need to login. Perhaps cookies deleted...
Post by iconPost by andrel | 2018-01-02 | 12:37:26
Thanks but I have no options. I can't register with my new boat. Yes, the old boat is sailing without the full pack. I found it in firefox and mobile application. BS
Post by iconPost by andrel | 2018-01-02 | 12:59:57
Ridiculous. No, I have two boats. The old one with the annoying barrel and guestxxxx boat without logging details but fully equipped for €14.99 for Leg 4. Game developer guys and gulls look like still celebrating Ney Year days. FFF

first login than spend money, not the other way around

maybe a message to support helps with a clear and friendly request. seems legit to me.

Thanks for the advice. I was logged in and I do not know what happened. I sent a ticket but now I even lost control of my guest49315 boat which is in the good position now and next turn is in an hour about. Sad very sad

is anyone experiencing a huge diference between the Game VMG and Polar VMG? I am TWS17.5/TWA141 and VMG17.4 (with LS and RS options only)?!?!?! and the Polar VMG is indicating that I should be at 13.56;;
Post by iconPost by mjstevens | 2018-01-02 | 13:52:34

Post by iconPost by Pen Glops I | 2018-01-02 | 13:56:46
I think is not VMG but speed of the boat…
Post by iconPost by mjstevens | 2018-01-02 | 13:58:59
@Pen GLops I - you are perfectly RIGHT, my screw up, mixed up the measurements... never been any good at trigonometry ;) even worse with a New Year hangover... tks

Post by iconPost by GeGaX | 2018-01-02 | 14:01:17

I think you're confusing speed boat on the game and VMG on the polar chart
Post by iconPost by mjstevens | 2018-01-02 | 14:05:22
yeap, its seems that what is left of my brain is still on New Year celebration mode still.... tks for the time and effort for the 'Polar for Dummies' recap, much appreciated. Have a great 2018!

Post by iconPost by GeGaX | 2018-01-02 | 15:51:15
No it's not necessary, just read well ;)
Post by iconPost by toxcct | 2018-01-02 | 15:30:55
Ah ah, well spotted GeGaX.

Don't confuse indeed.
The VMG is the Speed component on the wind axis only (calculated to mesure performance when you want to go upwind or downwind).

I should probably consider moving this elsewhere :)
Post by iconPost by mjstevens | 2018-01-02 | 15:46:49
@toxcct - in my humble opinion, the layout of your (great) polar tool is fine, it was my total lack of attention that started this dumb thread.

Between Cvetan's routing and your polar tools, we are very well served. tks.
Post by iconPost by mjstevens | 2018-01-03 | 15:19:46
maybe a cool new feature to add to your polar page (if you have time and/or are searching for new features) would be to include the 'sail change calculator' as discussed in the thread below.

http://zezo.org/forum.pl?tid=6218

I incorporated the formulae into an excel sheet, but when playing with your polar tool, it would be cool to have it all on the 'same page' for imediate comparison ;)
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-01-02 | 21:11:16
more important with the last bit towards waypoints and capes of the landmasses is VMC (Velocity Made Course) or the component of your boat speed (SOG = Speed Over Ground) in the direction of the waypoint COG = Course Over Ground

Would be nice to have in VR Dashboard (COG and VMC) some day
Post by iconPost by GeGaX | 2018-01-02 | 21:50:15
On the game COG = HDG (BTW in reality) and SOG = SPD (STW in reality)
The game has no current or tides so no drift
VMC/VMCRate and VMG /VMG Rate could be good indications but they are not easy to set up ...
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-01-02 | 21:54:20
VMG comes from the polars.
VMC not but would be nice to have when rounding a buoy, land mass or targeting the finish line.
The game also doesn't have AWA (Apparent Wind Angle) although it is probably implicit in the polars.
And the boat goes straight through the water in stead of bit sideways when sailing upwind.
Post by iconPost by GeGaX | 2018-01-02 | 22:11:58
There is no need for AWA on the game we can not border or shock the sails to refine the settings must assume that it is minimalist otherwise VR would lose 90% of its players because it would be a game for navigator ( IRL) there it is general public

Otherwise I take the full pack NKE and Adrena at the chart table ;)

Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-01-02 | 22:26:54
Once you mention AWA you get to AOA and we are all doomed ;-)

BTW they tried to introduce tides/currents once.
Post by iconPost by GeGaX | 2018-01-02 | 22:35:23
We will have tides and currents when VRO3 will be stable ... so never ;)
Even if it would add an extra reflection it would not be silly but probably too complicated for most
Post by iconPost by banagan | 2018-01-03 | 02:34:09
Why doesn't the 16 day projected line actually point to Hong Kong?

Where is our VSR-leader going?

KLM2235 is in stealth at 494.4 nm from leader, while Cvetan is 415 nm from finish. Did he miss the start or is he tacking westbound? If so, than a bold move and justified use of stealth mode ...

*edit* eastbound -> westbound
Post by iconPost by nsp | 2018-01-03 | 02:56:07
Maybe he is doing west route :P
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-01-03 | 04:52:28
that's what I meant, it's late ...
Post by iconPost by WaterHammer | 2018-01-03 | 16:10:26
KLM2235 is visible now, indeed going to the West.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-01-03 | 08:26:45
@banagan it's a quirk of the routing algorithm - it does not like going around corners (Australia and Papua in our case, sometimes high-pressure systems too)

Should fix itself soon as we round Australia and open the view.
