VR displays the rhumb line for a given course. However the VR map is 2 dimensional not 3 dimensional. Does VR take this into account making the rhumb line truly the shortest course?

No, the line VR displays is not the actual rhumb line, and they say so in the FAQ...

They only display an informational path from the starting point to the finish line, which respects all kind of constrains like gates, buoys, ice exclusion zone and such...

Additionally, a "rhumb line" is not the shortest distance between two points.

VR uses Mercator projection where a rhumb line would be a straight line.

Shortest distance is called Orthodromy / Great Circle line. You can get it in the game when placing a waypoint, but for some reason unknown waypoints are limited to 24 hours ahead. Oh, it's not unknown it's called greed.

The orange line in my chart is a great circle line as is the blue dynamic track line. The red line is Loxodromy/Rhimb line - you can see how they diverge in few hours.

would it be hard to get the VR line from the client and draw it in zezo?
i Think it would help visualizing things?

That's interesting idea. The VR line is defined as small list of coordinates that won't be hard to display.

would be indeed nice to be able to better oriente between VR-client and zezo as there are no coordinates in the VR-client (except your own and other boats)

I hate fixing VR issues, but can't help it when it increases the usability of both sites.

Get's my vote: in the old VR version, it wasn't too hard to compare the VR position @ 24hrs with the one here; now it is really difficult; and the way you indicate would be much, much better than even the old one. And extra useful given the variable synchronization between the winds in the VR client and everything else.
