Hi All,

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the penalty rules. I can also not find a seperate section about it in the game help files which is strange.

As far as I know, and as per help files, the only penalties in the game are for sail changes due to wind conditions, and/or gybing/tacking.

Thanks

A penalty would be a punishment for braking rules or misbehaving. I would not consider gybing or tacking braking rules or misbehaving. It is just normal physics that those activities do slow down your boat. This effect is apparently encorporated in the game.

What (other?) penalties do you expect?

There is performance loss in real world for gybes/tack and sail changes because you lose speed in the process. OK, maybe not so much in sail changes but definitely in tacks.

The UG version had the concept of "crew energy" - every move wasted some of it and boat performance suffered if it dropped too low. Then you could buy candy bars to restore it. Players hated it, but it was a rather good idea, realistic and much, much better than the current one.

Yeah I remember the candy bars and i agree it made more sense. With penalties I meant speed loss/slowing you down due to sail changes, gybing/tacking. I have no issues with that. Just wondering what else is causing speed los. In another topic Toppen mentioned you suffer also speed loss for enabling autosails, and every time you add 12h autosails?

Is there no speed loss for course changes if sail settings remain the same?

Thank you

I'll check what happens with my clipper boat tonight when the sail changes from C0 to jib.

So, only speed loss for sail changes and for nothing else. Correct?

Thanks
