Very short time to react! But your excellent router is essential for racing.
Thanks a lot.

Hello,
from the posts, I understand that you will have a list of people that wishes to use yr platform for this regatta. If this is the case, I would like to be in the list as well. Is this possible?

add me to the list. Thanks

There is no list, people just say that they are interested in certain races.

Support is now available at http://zezo.org/cn/chart.pl

Should get us started, but there are few things that need finishing:

1) Gates are not added to the routeryet . Go for the first mark at the start

2) The race crosses the 180E/W in the opposite direction than most other races and that causes a new bug in the chart display where you can't see the final destination.

3) I used the Imoca 60 polars and wind logic from the previous races without checking for changes, so we'll have to keep an eye on wind and boat speeds.

The Chrome extension should also work, but there is no way to be sure before 3D viewer is enabled in the interface at race start.

You may also have to update the extensions manually to get the new version faster, because the auto-update does not run in real time. The current version is 2.0.7. You may also have to restart the browser and re-open the VR page after the update.

The polars look good as far as I checked.
Thanks !

Thank you!

Many thanks Zvetan.

Ooops. Got the Chrome extension slightly wrong. You have to update to 2.0.8 and the chart address is changed to http://zezo.org/clipperton-noumea/chart.pl (leaving the old one too).

Hello Zvetan,
File GFS 170307-06Z not loaded in your awesome zezo tools, it seems :)

Thx and regards.

Thanks. It was not available at the time. Model run got delayed at NOAA http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod/prodstat_new/

I'll check if it is in effect at VR and download it now if needed.

06Z downloaded now. Thanks again for the observation.

Zezo, the Clipperton chart doesn't seem to download correctly as it gives strange headings.
Cheers

PS Works on my PC though, but not on my iPad

PPS speed in chart is not correct: 17.42 kn vs 16.9 kn in game.

wind speed: 20.5 kts @ 148degr por, light gnk

Hello,

is it me or the routes given for this race are not that good ? I used it against a friend that just went through the straight route, and he is actually ahead of me.
It puzzled me that zezo kept changing its route to send me way north-west.

On sodebo zezo was great on the contrary.

Cheers.

The GFS forecast has different accuracy in different places. There are not a lot of weather stations in the Pacific ocean and we can't expect the same predictability as in the North Atlantic for example.

I once started a 1-week virtual race from Newport to somewhere in Europe where the 7-day prediction proved to be correct down to the hour, with the movement of the lows, the ridges and everything.

Then the boats on the straight line who are currently in the lead probably won't keep their positions at the first mark because soon they will have to sail dead downwind and it will slow them down considerably, but we have to wait a day or two to see exactly how much.

There is one rule in such unstable conditions - you have to decide on some strategy and stick with it. It's usually better to commit to a slightly worse track than to change your mind every 6 hours with the new weather forecast.

Thanks for the answer, I will try to keep that in mind and not refresh zezo's routes too often.
I will post again on the progress.

Thanks.

I usually accept small adjustments (10-20 degrees) every 6 hours, but if the router suddenly suggests tacking right now and taking a quite different route, most times I would wait 6 hours for the next forecast to confirm the idea.

That's when I don't have time and play in a 'mostly robot' mode. I takes a lot of effort to follow the development of the weather.

Thank you for all of your help, I could test for the first time on the Clipperton-Noumea race, and it works well. However tonight at 23: 24(23/3/2017) after input the coordinate I get no trace. Where is my mistake?
Post by iconPost by Turnoff | 2017-03-24 | 01:15:30
Sorry! I know my mistake:I input Long 171°41'55" it is out of the spot.
Thank again for all, I do not forget it!
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-03-24 | 12:05:44
It's not your mistake but a bug in my code.

It's been there like forever but only happens if the race runs from East to West and crosses the 180 line, which is rare and I never get to properly fixing it.

The workaround is to zoom into the "right" side of the chart (actually the Eastern hemisphere) while your boat is still on the side of the negative number longitudes and the target is on the other side.
Post by iconPost by ohe | 2017-03-24 | 14:35:30
Thank you Zvetan: your workaround does work! A really good help.
Is it in your plan to fix up this bug ?
Post by iconPost by jacenty67 | 2017-03-28 | 10:40:20
Hi Cvetan!
There's something wrong with suggested track...
Now I sail on course 205 what means 105 TWA.
Zezo shows that 105 twa I will have on course 191.
Difference 14 degrees - what happens?

Looks like VR have changed the wind interpolation details somehow. Not sure if it's related to the switch to daylight saving time or not, I've been seeing relatively large differences even before that.

Will have to do some reverse engineering exercises once again.

Everything clear right now...

VR apologies for the technical problem some of you may of encountered today, there was a corrupted weather file that got loaded to all games, which created the problem, the VR tech team found the problem fast & corrected as quick as they could, sorry for any inconvenience it may have caused you and your sailing experience.

Fair winds :)
