I'd Just like to start a discussion for the Sydney Hobart.

Any thoughts on options, routes, etc.

also, does anyone know what boat will be in use?

It's Clipper boat and the race is actually defined at VR as a clipper leg.

Guess we'll have to add multi-leg support to the extension in the following days because the actual Clipper legs starts at about the same time.

Hobart is even present on the map, but there is a gate at Tasman island.

Too early to setup timeshift/make assumptions about weather conditions. In general it can be relatively calm or boat-breaking.

The boat is the same Imoca as in Clipper and RORC, as Cvetan stated.

You can see the actual boat on my polars chart (http://toxcct.free.fr/polars/), in the upper side box...

best option is by far foils, but to add one more to that it is a tie between C0 and winches

In the JVT, I just tacked and made a sail change from Jib to C0 and that costs (without wiches compared to winches) each 225 s at half speed, which is 112.5 s at zero speed).

so each tack or sail change costs 112.5 s without winches compared to with winches

when choosing C0, there will be many more sail changes ...
when choosing winches, I will loose on the reaching part after the start and have less sail changes and only one tack and a few gybes. maybe more towards the finish

What would you guys choose besides foils, C0 or winches?

I think the difference shown on the router with pro winches is not real (only a few maneuvers), but as Cvetan said the router don't works well long term without winches.

Winches are OK on short track. I recommend turning them on for long-term strategical planning.

It's 300 seconds. The other 75 seconds are in the first cycle. You'll see that the speed is lower there too. So it's two and a half minutes standstill.

I was comparing to with or without winches, so only looking at the delta_t between the penalties:
225s at 50% = 112.5 s at 0%

everybody looses in addition 37.5s of standstill with every gybe/tack/sailchange

Finished on place 229 instaed of 140 due to stupid VR server...
They stopped my boat at 09:45:17 for 15 minutes, just before crossing the final finish ring.
No grounding, no penalty, no warning messages.
Just stopped.
I had the last WP inside the ring.
After deleting this WP at 10:00 my boat finished the race.

You can ask the support for redress - there were cases were it has worked before. Better don't mention the extension though, not sure if it will do you any good.

Could you have put the WP too close to the finish ring?? In the previous Clipper race (Africa-Australia) I ran aground just inside the finish ring. VR did not recognize me as finished before I "rocked" the boat free from the ground. Lost 1200+ positions because of this.

I filed a complaint to VR about this. A few days later the responded and restore my final ranking with 1200+ positions. Great kudos to VR for this!

So I recommend you to file a complaint, I'm positive that VR will fix your ranking to what it should have been.

Waypoints seem to be quite buggy. My second boat turned 180 degree once, other players have also complained.

One possible problem source is two waypoints cleared within one update cycle, i.e. too close to each other. The seems to be a waypoint too close to the finished circle.

I use waypoints but avoid over-tuning the roundings. And when finishing place it to at the center, or somewhere close.
