It does not really matter with short races like this one, but is quite useful on ocean crossings.

The short answer is that the optimizer calculates the isochrones for the set period, then chooses the nearest point to the destination and displays the path from current position to that point.

1 or 2-day tracks on a long leg will miss things like weather systems. On the other hand 7-day track will depend too much on unreliable 7-day forecast, so there is no single 'correct' duration.

Thanks...

So for Leg of 400 nm, 3 or 4 are good settings ?

Generally the shortest period that reaches the finish point is probably best as shorter periods use smaller steps and have less error and the calculated times are closer to the reality.

The 7-day simulation uses 1-hour steps and therefore all times are rounded to 1-hour. That is OK for checking long-term strategy, but not useful to steer the boat. That's why I advise checking the long term track, setting destination point a day or two ahead somewhere on it and then switching to 1/2 day period to get exact event time stamps.
