Who is in?

I am looking at it and not finding myself convinced it is worth the effort.

Seems to be about 6 days of sailing. That means the weather routers have already found the best course and will continue to do so for the entire race. Not a bad thing but it removes some of the challenge of figuring out where the right front will come from.

Results won't change my standings with my local competitors. That was done a while ago.

No individual leg prize

So.

Who is in and is it worth it?

It'll work like the coastal races (C600, Normandy Channel Race, Mini en Mai, UltiMed, the Monaco thing, etc). A lot of your performance will depend on how well you manage mark roundings, VMG sailing near coastlines without running aground, etc. Those tend to be my favorites and where I put up my best results, especially when I decide to go ahead and wake up at 3 AM if necessary to really go for it (which I don't normally do). So, normally I'd say I'm in this one to win it, but... I'm racing my real boat in the North American Championships next week, so whatever I do in this will be half-hearted.

Anyway... If you like that kind of racing, go for it. If not, pass. It will be a very frustrating race if you don't like that kind of thing.

I decided to jump in.

My brother is racing so I have to get in here and do my best to beat him. I did promise to stop using Zezo routing though. That makes it a bit more challenging.

Good luck on the North American Championships. What class of boat? I did a brief 'net search but it was not obvious.

Hello,
There seems to be a discrepancy between the VR and zezo time of departure for this VOR leg. VR is 17:00 CEST whereas timeshift is set to 15:00 CEST. Would it be possible to confirm and change if necessary, Cvetan ? Thanks !
Post by iconPost by toxcct | 2018-06-10 | 05:25:45
No no, it's 15:00 GMT, so that makes 17:00 CEST (GMT+2).
Also, They initially announced That the arrival of this leg would be in Gothenburg (which is located in Denmark), but now the leg seems to arrive in Göteborg, Sweden.
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-06-10 | 06:05:40
zezo routing map still shows 15:00 CEST

Gothenburg is actually the English name for Göteborg in Sweden. I live in Göteborg, or Gothenburg as we call our city when we speak English. Just like Köpenhamn in Denmark is called Copenhagen in English we have an English name for our city.
Post by iconPost by toxcct | 2018-06-13 | 06:04:33
I understand.
weird thing is, I looked up on Google Map when the race appeard, because VR did not publish the arrival harbour at that time, and so, as I saw "Gothenburg" on the race thumbnail, I searched for it to figure out which flag to use.

I may have typed it wrong then, because I landed somewhere in Denmark :)
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-06-10 | 09:02:43
Fixed. Game used to say 15:00 few days ago.

My zezo routing sends me to the West coast of Norway. Anyone else seeing the same problem? Or is that normal for now? Am I doing something wrong?

Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-06-10 | 14:34:03
zezo can't route very well around land masses. it will redress and improve, once you get north of ireland

I saw it. Shame. this time it was the begining of the race. at leg 9 I was disintegrated from podium finish :)) i was 3rd most of the race and when i pick a moment to overtake karriv i was sent home :)

..and now, dont know am I geting stronger or just closer to quit :)
Post by iconPost by toxcct | 2018-06-13 | 08:06:08
End Date postponed to 18th... 2 more days then.
Post by iconPost by Alex Wind | 2018-06-13 | 16:08:42
Only 1.2 miles behind the first and 92th, what a fucking close ranking !
Post by iconPost by rowie | 2018-06-13 | 17:49:28
Is it just me or did VR just move the world north by a half mile or so...?
Post by iconPost by Alex Wind | 2018-06-13 | 20:49:02
I think at the arrival, it would be possible to cross the islands in front of Goteborg, but the game map is not enough detailed...
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-06-13 | 21:30:12
put ashore AFTER ROUNDING the island / buoy with waypoints (dotted lines in the blue at max. zoom. boat turned at the waypoint and was clear from the island. adjust heading one degree, hopped in a real sailboat only to find my boat put ashore BEFORE THE BUOY even.

completely done with VR now: https://goo.gl/JMj4Tg
Post by iconPost by rowie | 2018-06-13 | 23:57:20
Had a similar thing happen at the bottom of Ireland. Set my waypoints up conservatively off the coast and checked them a few times only to wake up the next morning in the 22000s after crashing in to the side of it
Post by iconPost by Alex Wind | 2018-06-14 | 10:44:37
Someone knows if there is a gate before the arrivals or we can cross the islands?

Post by iconPost by Xeelee | 2018-06-14 | 11:16:37
One last gate between Skagen and Norway. No further gates to the arrival, so feel free to
cruise around in the nice Gothenburg archipelago :-)

Again a bug with waypoints for me. My last race, it's not cool to play with this bugs.

Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-06-14 | 14:36:11
Tessa also struck by the Jessicabot

Post by iconPost by Stormbringer | 2018-06-14 | 15:03:11
That really sucks for everyone, but especially for Tessa who was contending for a win, now she's down to 150th. There should be a method for redress, especially if she's a money player.

Post by iconPost by UR2L8 | 2018-06-14 | 14:38:10
Suddenly it seems like Tessa is behind me? What happened?

Edit: I see the post from Ursus now. Wow, that is not acceptable. I wanted to use waypoints to guide me through those islands. But who dares to use WPs now??

Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-06-14 | 15:00:08
WP's f*cked up my race at the Shetland buoy. see post above. and they f*cked up at least three other races in the six month I'm playing. fix that Mr Not Super Guigne !!
Post by iconPost by Alex Wind | 2018-06-14 | 15:04:26
Yes, it's unacceptable. I leave definitevly VR for live skipper. I invinte all the guys to do the same. I have reported on VR facebook.
Post by iconPost by mak08 | 2018-06-14 | 15:26:29
Don't set waypoints closer than 10min apart. Yes, it's the time that matters, and the closest distance you can use depends on the weather forecast.

Also be careful when going close to the coast. My boat got stuck on the yellow brim two times in this race - speed dropped to zero but the boat was not reported aground!

Post by iconPost by Tessa94 | 2018-06-14 | 15:29:20
There was only a single waypoint there so that wasn't it. I did have some waypoints near gothenburg that were set closer. What I suspect might have been the issue is that I was moving waypoints near Gothenburg as I was making the turn. So if you change one of your other waypoints while you are passing one you might get the bug.

Post by iconPost by marcusbelgicus | 2018-06-14 | 19:03:02
Yes this is the reason. I got the same on the last leg, moving the last WP while my boat close to the 1st one. VR considers the entire set of WP as one instruction. So don't move the others if you are close to one of them, or just throw them away and start another series. No change during a set of WP, even autosail on/off could create problems.

Post by iconPost by mak08 | 2018-06-14 | 19:35:33
Ah, thanks for correcting me. This makes sense.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-06-14 | 20:05:24
That explanation sounds quite reasonable. I never had a waypoint problem myself, but then I know better than placing waypoints less than 10 minutes ahead.
Post by iconPost by Alex Wind | 2018-06-14 | 15:55:27
The same for me. It's real bug, I have been very carefully with the waypoints to don't make an error.
Post by iconPost by UR2L8 | 2018-06-14 | 16:02:07
Nice move by Tessa!

The waypoints cooperated this time :)

BBCode. Examples on this link https://www.bbcode.org/examples

When I saw it I was really amazed.

I could'nt believe it.

I did not think it was possible. There are no blue pixels anywhere.

One of those blue boats, could perfectly be mine.

Although, now that I think about it, I would swear that Tessa made that same move in the previous edition.

Repeated Sorry :(
Post by iconPost by wedoarc3 | 2018-06-14 | 17:03:31
Did finish this time as well with waypoints. Couldn't believe that Tessa could go through that rocky sh*thole. Needed to blink twice with my eyes. This was a very costal rocky finish.
Well done everyone onboard VORG. See you next race and maybe live at my hometown. You are invited!

Post by iconPost by Rostef | 2018-06-14 | 17:38:15
We were a few to waypoint through the islands. Speedou, Miguel, Nilhos, Marcus and myself also.
My waypoints were a lot closer than 10mins apart, literally zig-zagged through. So this can't be the bug. But I set them once and then closed my eyes and didn't touch anything anymore. I crash gybed enough times this Volvo to know to not try to adjust something in the last minute or while another manouver is executed...
Post by iconPost by karriv | 2018-06-14 | 18:24:08
I didn't take the garden route but still my waypoints were less than 10 min apart. I also saw my boat go 180 deg in the wrong direction at the end of AR2G (or whatever it was called). I just went back to home screen and logged in again, and everything was fine.

Tricky bug if you can't replicate it...
Post by iconPost by UR2L8 | 2018-06-14 | 21:03:10
I have seen it many times, but it never affected anything. I never do anything if I see it, except restarting the game. Maybe I just have been lucky.
However, once I think my boat for some reason slowed down a bit because I used waypoints. I had set waypoints to cut some corners just before a finish line. And I lost 50 positions with no obvious reason, Perhaps it was just a crappy route... but I was really suprised by it.

Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-06-14 | 21:58:49
you may have a bad TWA when using waypoints on some segment. especially around or right after a wheather update in the game
Post by iconPost by woffer | 2018-06-14 | 19:19:05
I was less lucky trying to go through the islands. No waypoints. Managed to get through the gap and turn south before the game reversed my boat and showed it aground.
Post by iconPost by guyrivers | 2018-06-15 | 03:28:31
As I was finishing today, my icon went over the finish line and into the marina. 5 seconds later it popped back out onto the racecourse and stayed on the finish line for another 15 seconds, then finished again for real. My finishing position was flashed on screen, but changed 14 positions worse when I closed the announcement screen.

I know the numbers are provisional for a bit, but it sure looked like I was spit out of the marina for a penalty turn!
Post by iconPost by Flying Dutchman1 | 2018-06-15 | 14:18:35
I had exactly the same. When I went over the finsh line 1e I was place 78. My boat jumped back and finished some time later as 108. Not bad but would have loved to be under 100 ):

Post by iconPost by Rostef | 2018-06-15 | 14:20:06
This is the old „server-versus-interface-position-problem“. The UI thinks you passed the finish line, but when it receives the correct data from the server and server says you haven‘t, it spits you back out.
Same as when you see your boat going slightly backwards sometimes.
Your ranking throughout the race is always tending to be a bit too optimistic since your position is actual, but your opponents position might be a minute or two behind. This is fully corrected only at the finish line so normally you‘ll loose a few places there.
Post by iconPost by Flying Dutchman1 | 2018-06-15 | 14:35:15
Thanks for the explanation Rostef. It is what it is:):) It's much worse what happend to Tessa.

Post by iconPost by feriber | 2018-06-15 | 15:32:31
Repeated again :( :( :(
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-06-15 | 16:54:14
The client does not account for the penalties (as can be seen in the indicated boat speed)

So it moves your boat a mile ahead after a tack, then back half mile when the server-side update comes. Worst when you are grounded, because it moves your boat even if the server sill thinks it's aground. What makes it even worse is that the server does not send position updates while you are grounded.
