Guess where those morons of VR make Leg 11 start ?
Gothenburg... in Norway ! (-_-)

Also, I see they use a Race Id 334.1, which is nothing logical with the other VOR races which ids were #333.x.

Just noticing, so be careful, it might change again before actual race start

Guess What ?
Now that leg is starting from Göteborg, in Sweden...

Well done VR Team, once again, not able to publish a race properly !

Just few hours ago: Full pack for 4.49€... Few hours later: no more full pack for this leg...

Partner codes not working???

Post by iconPost by pomale | 2018-06-15 | 16:20:12
If it were a full pack code I would complain. Otherwise, what the bother.

If you are living in the hague, you can get full pack for free. ;)

Any hidden gates in this one?

If not for the spit of land blocking the river at Aggersund, I'd be wanting to sneak through there. But since that's impassable, I can't see any sneaky routes. No need for any hidden gates, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. :-)

On prend les 6 meilleurs résultats en point sur les 10 étapes. Si je prends hipolou2.. a priori finir 853eme de la dernière étape donne 592 pts, mais seront soustraits les 64 pts de la première étape car déjà 6 courses prisent en compte.
Post by iconPost by BGSteMarine | 2018-06-18 | 20:56:22
Post by iconPost by Xeelee | 2018-06-18 | 14:39:33
In fact there are six hidden hidden gates. But all of them are stretching the whole water-space, so
they are only there for ranking/dtf calculations and to ensure the correct rounding of Samsø and Skagen.

Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2018-06-20 | 16:31:08
For the sake of being careful... Can you or someone else please confirm that none of the Frisian Islands are impacted by invisible gates?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frisian_Islands

I believe we're forecast to be VMG running on the way to the finish, so it's plausible that people might want to go East of Texel before gybing, or something like that.

I see that the Afsluitdijk is open in the north-east. Glad that in reality there is a lock preventing half of my country from flooding ;)

Also the dyke around the Markermeer could us some really big thumbs.

And unfortunately, the Noordzee Canal is not sailable, where in reality it is ...

You could indeed dive into the Waddenzee between Ameland and Terschelling if you time it right with the tidal currents ;)
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-06-22 | 18:38:02
did you get an answer somewhere on this one?
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2018-06-20 | 17:47:35
I just realized how different the virtual course is from the real course.

The real boats need to go to a South Norway mark, and then to Aarhus, leaving Laeso and Silderon to starboard. Then back to the South Norway mark, and then to The Hague.

The virtual course appears to have no involvement of a South Norway mark, nor Aarhus, Laeso, or Silderon. But it requires us to go around Samso, which isn't a mark of the real course.

Strange. Some of that is understandable because of recent revisions in the official Sailing Instructions, and it doesn't necessarily make sense to change the virtual race just before the start. And some of the differences (such as coastal marks to keep boats off the rocks and in spectator view at the start and in Aarhus, as well as TSS zones) are entirely normal. But the usage of Samso and exclusion of Aarhus is confusing. I don't think Samso was ever in the SI, and I think Aarhus was always there.

Oh well. It'll be fun anyway. Just strange.
Post by iconPost by Standstill | 2018-06-20 | 20:34:23
The reason to the confusion is that the city of Aarhus has an agreement with VOR that the boats shall arrive on the 22/6 between 12-18 at the mark in the harbour in Aarhus. That is only possible if they sail a much longer distance than the 130 m from Gteborg to Aarhus. I also noticed that not even the skippers know exactly where they are heading tomorrow when the starts goes. You can hear Charles Caudrelier skipper of Dong Feng say that at the Skippers press conference today.

Thanks! Very interesting. I hope you don't mind if I share this information in the related Sailing Anarchy thread.

You are velcome :-) I live in Aarhus and i am going on the water Friday to see them. Hopefully i can set up the game so i still have a chance to get in front of you. I am right behind you at 27 overall :-)

This has been my 3rd Volvo and despite all of the VR bugs/headaches, the race continues to be filled with wonderful international camaraderie and competition. It has been a true pleasure and honour racing with all of you around the globe. <3

Fair winds; enjoy the last leg!

Sideshow didn't even bother to start anymore. 3rd place inda pocket
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2018-06-21 | 15:07:48
If his best 6 finishes are all worth 1600 points or more, then he can't improve his overall score even if he wins this leg.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-06-21 | 15:15:32
This race is not part of the VOR at all. Separate race ID, and there is no race<->leg switch.
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2018-06-21 | 15:46:29
Wow... So they're treating it like the prologue. Annoying that this wasn't evident before paying to do it. My 6th-best result was bad enough that I was really hoping to put up a good enough score to improve a bit.
Post by iconPost by MissAdventure | 2018-06-21 | 17:29:49
Really?? Well dangit!! I'm 55th overall and have a shitty 6th leg that I was hoping to replace and bump me to top 50 for my final result. grrr. I wonder what reason they have for not including #11

It must be the best 6 legs of 11!
From VOR: June 20, 2018 15:21 UTC
"After nine months of intense competition, the Volvo Ocean Race Game will conclude with Leg 11 – starting tomorrow!"
"Overall, the Volvo Ocean Race Game, run by Virtual Regatta, is scored on a player’s best six legs..."

The problem is that 1st place in VSR6 race brings you 1/3 of the points of a #1 in VSR4 race / the same points as rank 81 in VSR4 race.
Post by iconPost by TomekN_zegluj_net | 2018-06-22 | 11:24:00
Yeah..
It's really time to quit VR forever.

In the every VOR official e-mail was written very clear:

The ultimate virtual sailing challenge
The game is back and full of new features for more fun! From hull polish to 3D view, the immersion in the most ultimate offshore race challenge is even greater... Let’s go sailing for 11 legs around the world!

The ultimate challenge
The 2017-18 Volvo Ocean Race Game will take you 45,000 nautical miles around the world, across four oceans, touching six continents and 12 landmark Host Cities.
11 legs
45,000 miles to cover
5 "Wildcard" legs

Wildcard!
Only your 6 best legs count!
Have no fear: on the virtual Volvo Ocean Race, the 5 stages that bring you the least points will not negatively impact your overall ranking.

Sometimes I wonder what the VR PR is smoking. On every press release, actually.
Post by iconPost by Mullionman | 2018-06-22 | 13:25:42
The same is probably going to happen in the Clipper.
There was no Leg 1 as VR started in Uruguay and not Liverpool but they claim 13 legs.
So after nearly a year of racing in the VOR and Clipper, how will we know our final positions?
Post by iconPost by Lazy_Hikers_Finland | 2018-06-22 | 23:42:10
And with this bombshell, its time to end this fiasco of a game.

Fair winds to all of you and see you good people in 2021 with better winds and in a playground not run by criminals.

PS

And I wonder how can the race organizers (Volvo Ocean Race, S.L.U) and main sponsors* allow this to happen.

Please keep in mind that this had been notified in an in-game info at the beginning of the game last year.

It's important to regularly have a look at the message icon on the game main screen, there is a lot of info that can be found there! Sadly, for display capacities reasons, all those news cannot be kept indefinitely in the news stack.

Specifically, we'd like to point out that with the info of Leg 11 getting ready to start it is written in the article the following: "It's long-term racing, where only 6 of your best results will be taken into account for the final standings, which will be revealed in Gothenburg at the end of Leg 10."

did anyone spot this VR-message?
Post by iconPost by SYSeaSick | 2018-06-24 | 10:04:05
They must be kidding! But I guess not...

And I guess they have removed the final standings for "display capacities reasons" as well...

Post by iconPost by BGSteMarine | 2018-06-24 | 11:31:23
Quite a pity !
The info was there in the French version of the VR-message, but not in the English one ...
Post by iconPost by Misil208 | 2018-06-24 | 07:51:12
Totaly insane!!! If that is true I will protest to VR and VOR! They can’t change the rule in the last leg!!!
Post by iconPost by TomekN_zegluj_net | 2018-06-25 | 10:58:23
>They can’t change the rule in the last leg!!!
They can do, what they want. ;-))

Totally agree with You, but do not waste your time trying to protest at VR.
They simply do not care...
I was trying a few times do discuss with VR, but never sucesfull.

Crystal clear that leg 11 is the last leg:
https://www.volvooceanrace.com/en/news/11977_Sprint-finish-to-bring-marathon-Volvo-Ocean-Race-game-to-a-close.html
"Sprint finish to bring marathon Volvo Ocean Race game to a close

After nine months of intense competition, the Volvo Ocean Race Game will conclude with Leg 11 – starting tomorrow!

The final leg of the race will see thousands upon thousands of virtual sailors race side by side with the seven Volvo Ocean Race teams in a 700-mile sprint from Gothenburg, Sweden, to the Dutch city The Hague.", etc
