Hi Cvetan, can you set-up routing when you have some time?
Than we can start finding a good window.

Seems as if they get more and more greedy to get some money from us (nb: I'm NMS). They aren't even capable to estimate reasonably race-time. 3 days seems quite optimistic. As of our destination, "Lizard Piont", how could we find that. Perhaps it's a hidden gate in the middle of the Atlantic. This team of lootbox-crooks probably had some apéros too many.

Three days is a bit optimistic. More like 4. The actual record is 3 days 15 hours. Banque Populaire V, 9 years ago and still standing.

Do you know if it's only a single try or if it's like JV, we can make many tries till the closing date ?
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-05-14 | 20:01:20
It's supposed to be a multi-attempt race open until August.
Post by iconPost by ludo13470 | 2018-05-14 | 20:59:02
You're right Cvetan.

I start a record now and you're able to stop it when you want to try again.

just started sailing to collect navcards for the real attempt ;)

So far, I have accumulated 19 cards, and 11 of them are Weather. 2 help, 2 autosails, 3 waypoint, and 1 programmation. (Strangely, zero stealth).

All I really care about until we get a good weather window for a finish of 100 hours or less is getting programmation cards. Is anyone having notably better luck in getting programmation cards, or are they do they have odds of 5% or worse?

Do we have a way to find out what the actual odds are for each card?

(Yes, I know I can buy cards... I just don't want to spend any credits on this event, beyond what I spent on boat upgrades... I figure if I can accumulate 20+ programmation cards before a good weather window occurs, that should be do-able)
Post by iconPost by patmaillou94 FV-R | 2018-05-16 | 16:17:22
19 maps too, including 3 help, 3 weather, 5 automatic sailing, 2 waypoints, 5 programmmation and 1 stealth mode

perhaps a good weather window the 20/05 in the morning.. we'll see in few days
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-05-16 | 20:59:16
It moved to 19th with the last GRIB. I have to put together a page with a summary if the forecasts at a glance, updated every 6 hours.
Post by iconPost by BGSteMarine | 2018-05-16 | 21:13:07
Thanks Cvetan, this page would be a great idea, and will avoid quite a lot a similar requests to the server by all the players looking for the best slot !!
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-05-16 | 22:46:05
that would be great. and indeed, we all would be sending your server the same queries all the time ;)
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-05-17 | 18:12:57
The queries are cached between the weather updates as long as the start and finish point, start time and option set are the same, so that's not an issue.
Post by iconPost by Stuart C | 2018-05-16 | 20:01:20
25 cards

No more lucky than everybody with the PR cards. Only 1 PR on 18 cards
Post by iconPost by Lasse | 2018-05-17 | 21:26:48
Zero programming, two WP.
Post by iconPost by RastaSLO | 2018-05-18 | 06:34:56
So far 3 prog cards in pack of two cards, so always picking up a prog if I see it. So not to be greedy or feeling lucky. 4 WPs. All cards 25.
Post by iconPost by huditojo | 2018-05-18 | 12:59:43
Until now, I got 4H, 11W,2 AS, 2WP, 0P, 5SM...
Post by iconPost by elwin | 2018-05-18 | 15:39:24
31 cards, 4 wp, 2 prog, quite lucky I guess.
Current attempt 90h + ~39h to finish. Let's say 130 hours, target of 100h is ambitious, but doable. I wonder how many, if any, perfect windows we will get until august 1.

Post by iconPost by huditojo | 2018-05-18 | 21:25:35
I think it's purposeful, the letters that we most want are the ones that least come out, to force us to spend credits or money, maybe there's a bit of manipulation here...
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2018-05-18 | 22:14:46
Absolutely. Programmation is both the most valuable and the least common, and I think waypoints are next. When I don't buy a full pack, those are the two things I look for. If you use Zezo, the only other thing you might ever actually need is occasional autosails.

I agree with Rasta's comment... Whenever I see a programmation in the 2-card choice, I take it. In some races where I really want waypoints, I'll do that for waypoint cards too, but not this one. Otherwise, I take the 3. I'm up to 5 programmation cards now. I think I got 3 from random 3-packs and 2 from visible 2-packs. That's out of 27 cards total. I think I'm actually doing pretty well with that because I'm guessing the actual odds are 10% or worse.

Regarding elwin's wondering... I think we'll probably get 2-3 windows where Zezo says we can beat 100 days. Maybe one where Zezo says we can beat 90. But a lot changes after we start. For example, tomorrow, Zezo thinks we can get there in something like 110 hours. A couple days ago, it said 88. The difference is in the slowdown at the end. If the forecast reverts, tomorrow could suddenly be a great window that didn't look great at the start. Sometimes these races come down to who puts up the best performance in a Zezo-recommended window. But a lot of the time, it's someone who starts in a mediocre window whose forecast improves after they start.

Oh, and... Cvetan... The idea of an extra page with a table of start times and projected finish times is brilliant. If you can do that, a lot of people will find it valuable.
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-05-19 | 03:34:03
great post. didn't know you were ever sailing NMS.

Yeah, great, let's all start at the same time when the best window is there. I think you are right about the optimum time at the line. There it is all about how favorable the wheather turns out. Since it is a short race, you could give 12h before the best window a try and see how the wheather develops. Could turn out to be the winning one. Maybe even 24h before. FIrst you need to get out on the ocean in the shortest possible time.

and the finish is a gate between UK and France, unlike the buoy zezo is using by default.

BTW, you mention days twice in your, where it should be hours.
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2018-05-19 | 12:11:45
Oops! Yeah... If we're having difficulty beating 100 days, we're doing something wrong.
Post by iconPost by Lasse | 2018-05-18 | 22:06:00
Of course it is. VR is a company that relies on income. It's nothing strange with that.
Post by iconPost by Steve_NZ777 | 2018-05-19 | 09:39:29
I agree Lasse. They supply a game that brings a lot of people a lot of joy, and they make money doing it, good on them.
Post by iconPost by JohnT | 2018-05-20 | 02:19:27
I'm sure I'm not the only one, but for these finishes between the UK and France, I set the destination somewhere between Cherbourg and the Isle of Wight which gives me a better idea of where on the finish line to aim for...
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-05-21 | 08:30:07
I have to add the line itself. Will make it easier to spot where exactly the isochrones touch it first.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-05-21 | 08:55:10
Added Ouessant as a waypoint with a red line to Lizard Point.

Why is the atlantica mapping in UTC when VR Dashboard is set to local times?

Post by iconPost by toxcct | 2018-05-21 | 13:39:07
To make you gybe earlier :-)))
Post by iconPost by mak08 | 2018-05-24 | 15:33:59
The router and dashboard settings are unrelated. Afaik the router always uses local time except in the record attempt races where the start time selector wouldn't work otherwise.
Post by iconPost by Stuart C | 2018-05-24 | 15:01:24
Hi all, does anybody know whether you have to buy new options if you finish an attempt or do you keep the ones that you already have? I forgot to buy foils for my current attempt but would like to finish so I have at least one time recorded.
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2018-05-24 | 15:06:44
You keep all of your options and do not need to re-purchase.

I'm not sure if you'll get an opportunity to buy more options than you previously had between attempts or not, though. I think no.
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-05-24 | 19:59:53
yes, you can ...

(already added foils and reach, thinking of saving some credits for heavy)
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-05-24 | 16:59:19
They give you a second chance to spend your money ;-)

I started my first attempt SO, then purchased morre sails after returning to port.

It would help to get the map/landmasss right :-(

Hello Cvetan. Would it be possible to add a button "Start from New York" to automatically reset the starting point from the beginning please ?
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-05-25 | 20:12:02
somewhere I read something about adding a way to identify a good windows easier. any thought on that?

Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2018-05-30 | 13:18:29
If you re-start without finishing an attempt, do you get to keep the cards you gathered during the attempt you ceased?

I'll be finishing an attempt today, and I don't see any reason to start again for at least a couple days, but I might go for a casual cruise to try to pick up some programmation cards. It would be annoying to do that (even though it's only a few seconds of attention a couple times a day) if the gathered cards would be lost when ceasing the attempt to re-start.
Post by iconPost by pomale | 2018-05-30 | 13:37:38
I suppose you keep them as you dont loose options on restart. Honestly I never tried.

Post by iconPost by Marty6 | 2018-05-30 | 14:38:09
You keep the cards
Post by iconPost by Lasse | 2018-05-30 | 13:36:49
Yes. I’ve mostly been cruising, only one finished attempt so far, and have 70 cards by now.
Post by iconPost by Lasse | 2018-05-30 | 13:49:00
And just to be sure , I just stopped my current attempt in which I had collected cards 2-3 times, and started a new one. Still got all the cards.
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2018-05-30 | 14:14:46
Thanks for checking. It would be a shame to go on a long card-collecting cruise only to discover later that you're required to finish to keep them. I can't decide whether to head for Antigua or Greenland.
Post by iconPost by Marty6 | 2018-05-30 | 14:41:07
Day after tomorrow doesn't look too shabby for an new attempt according to the current forecasts. So don't go too far unless you are time restrained ;)
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-05-30 | 17:18:07
If you finish one attempt, you will get credits for cards, but there is a limit on it. in JVT they gave me 650 credits ...

... FOR 519 CARDS !!

Post by iconPost by Lasse | 2018-05-30 | 17:03:53
I'm happy that VR let us teleport to the start line. 😀
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-05-30 | 17:16:08
without even charging credits ...
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-06-03 | 08:38:03
There is a sub-4 day forecast for 9th. It may not materialize but you can check what weather conditions we are looking for. Start with a strong high pressure system in the middle of the Atlantic, transition into strong low pressure system along the way.
