As I was tweeting to somebody about how good VR was acting with us, then THE man went out of the woods.

I'm sorry if this is in french, but yet the translation should be pretty obvious I believe.

Here is his reply : https://twitter.com/pguigne/status/1013763882844938240

happy reading folks.
Don't hesitate to fulfill the bucket if need be :)

PAYPAL CASE/CLAIM TO VR - File a Paypal Case, if necessary will escalate into a claim. I guess if many more players do this they maybe wake up and smell the coffee. Spread the word #VRClaim

I read your other post, and saw your tweet too.
But did you have to hijack my thread to post this out there ?
Post by iconPost by chelonia | 2018-07-02 | 14:01:55
Don't get it, but i deleted the tweet. Sorry for whatever i offended you

I just fear that my thread gets flooded with unrelated messages, and that finally, Philippe Guigné don't answer at all (if he ever wanted to).

But no pb for you to post it beside anyway ;)

@Chelonia, maybe start your own thread on Twitter, with a tweet on your hashtag, offcourse while tagging @pguigne and @virtualregatta.

@Toxcct, nice try to take Mr. Super head-on, it won't harm

@All, let give a voice to our grieves about VR on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Maybe that helps. Follow them everywhere and commente wherever you can. Helpst at least to get rid of your frustration ;)

Well, I did not tried to push his back on the wall, I only wanted to tell, once again, and for once I had his attention, that we are many to be very disapointed about them, and that he should be aware of it, and be directly responsible for all the mess.

Now, requesting that VOR finds a new virtual game provider is probably excessive, knowing that I can't see any serious contender, and unlike you twitted, I don't find that the UI (in term of graphical elements) is that "crappy".

However, their political/economic choices, the way they deploy new releases, and their total lack of communication is absolutely irresponsible at that point, and that's what I told him.
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-07-02 | 19:20:02
any form of accurate manual steering is impossible. don't know how to depict that other than crappy
Post by iconPost by toxcct | 2018-07-02 | 19:50:22
Well, you're right. I was just making a difference between the graphical part of the UI, and it's engine.

UI is not bad, engine is shitbar

just made a request to VOR to select a different virtual regatta service provider for next edition:

They have to survive the two years until the next VOR first. That's enough time to fix the few outstanding bugs.
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-07-02 | 19:40:12
great opportunity to make a better client and seal the VOR21 deal ;)
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-07-02 | 19:44:29
It's a bit more complex than that. So far VOR have been selling the rights to the highest bidder. So if you can secure about 1 Million investment you can play for it.

Then VR have to earn enough over the next 2 years. And then there is new Volvo ownership, new VOR ownership/management. They may decide to invest in a game instead.

VOR better stick do their core business. nice and easy revenue from VR this way, hardly any risk

Let me recommend a few things...

- Calm down. It's s hobby. I don't mean that disrespectfully. I've been where you are, and got to #1 by not letting myself get upset enough to turn against VR in a personal way. They are who they are. Accept it or move on.

- Remember that you're a customer. If you don't like the product enough to pay the price, stop paying. If you continue to pay, accept that your complaints aren't going to achieve much.

- Don't expect better. VR's style is well-established and won't change. If you don't like it, save yourself the aggravation. It's an outstanding system for beginners and mid-level players. The flaws become evident when you get really serious (unless you're a beginner who is unfortunate enough to run into a waypoint bug or to run aground in open water). But they simply don't intend to make the game perfect from the perspective of top-level players.

- Once you get over that, enjoy it as it is. I have for a couple years now. I've really committed myself to it, and I've enjoyed the results. I've had to deal with some really frustrating situations, but I've learned that losing my temper won't achieve anything.

With that said, I'm pretty sure I'm taking a couple months off. I'll finish Clipper, and if the Atlantic Record produces a <4 day forecast (I'm hoping it doesn't), I'll give that a shot. But I'm not doing Ireland, Atlantic Anniversary, or TdF, and I probably won't do whatever random event comes next. Someone else will probably take over the #1 position, and that's fine with me. Everyone with a chance to achieve it within the next 2-3 months would be deserving, particularly because they'd still racing hard after the endurance test of doing Clipper and VOR simultaneously. Meanwhile, I'll enjoy going to summer camp with my son's boy scout troop without hiking to a hotspot several times a day.

It simply isn't fun for me anymore. I think that's normal, since plenty of past #1's have quit. You get questions from newbies every day, and people who don't understand the game's flaws who decide to accuse you of cheating because your track crosses land or their boatspeed isn't shown identically to yours. Or you shank a start while racing your real boat, take a flyer, and decide to jump to the frigate and then a bunch of people decide to spam you with negative comments. Meanwhile, you're disappointed with a 20th place finish and feel like you need to finish top 5 to be happy with a race... It's exhausting. I'm looking forward to someone else being #1. I might come back in a month or two or four or six. I don't know. I have to see how I feel about it when I'm #10 and slightly more anonymous. Maybe I'll wait until I'm #50 and change my name and then come back so people can wonder "who's this 'odor of elderberries" boat?"

But... notice that my reasons for taking a break aren't VR's flaws. Yes, they could do better. But their goal is to gain the masses, not impress the elite.

PS: Wasn't La_Semillante #1 in the past? I'm leaning toward his retirement model. He's #321 now. Newbies have no idea who he is. But he occasionally shows up, and is near the front whenever he does.

Hi,
Mr. Guigné did not accept the discussion blocked me on Twitter. Now I created another account to follow him...

Got blocked too. Fuck off VR

I wasn't blocked :(

Must say that VR gives amazing laugh.
This "You should leave if we are so bad in your eyes" is another pearl of stupidity, the outpouring of an insecure, neurotic and basically unfit man in his role
Bad news: there are many managers out there like him
Good news: they go nowhere
You can be a total jerk as a leader but you must be absolutely brilliant in what you do. He is not
I hope you continues for ages, it is better than reading Dilbert

Well, that's a reasonable position of a business owner towards a customer - go away, your money are not worth the effort.

What is not OK is the "Go away with your bug reports, we know better than you how to build a sailing game" attitude and the almost complete lack of (reasonable) customer support.
Post by iconPost by lorenzo | 2018-07-03 | 09:38:15
Cvetan, it almost never happens, but I do not agree with you.

"Please do not leave we will do all we can to make it better and have you happy" is reasonable business wise.
Or keep quite.
But "You should leave if we are so bad in your eyes" is never reasonable as a statement from the CEO
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-07-03 | 10:01:08
It's perfectly good answer ... if the customer is an idiot. Which this customer is not, not to mention that this particular customer (toxcct) is providing added value to the game, free of charge (but not _direct_ monetary value)

@YourMomSA I'll never become #1. Not that I could not do it, but it's too much effort and money. Taking a little summer break myself too - will sail everything no money for a while, just to keep an eye on the game and be able to provide support if needed.

can you change the uid for Mr. Super to Mr. Stupid ?
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-07-03 | 14:46:28
Nooo. Nothing says it better then the current nick. I don't really speak French, but have the feeling that it's a quite strong superlative in that language. "The Master" or "The Great" or something on that scale.

It is. You get it absolutely right !
