I believe the first boat on the water is "SlyStarLeRetour". He started three minutes after the event opened. At the first buoy, Fouras_17 was ahead of him, but then Fouras chose to restart yesterday. Their time to the first buoy was just under 10 days. I believe the best of the Dorian starters will get to the first buoy with times of 8 days and 8-12 hours... So about a day and a half ahead to that point. But of course, there's a lot of racing left. If the boats who started early get a nice weather system anywhere in the remaining 8,000+ nm, they could overcome that deficit and post winning times that the Dorian starts can't catch.
Fouras_17 and the others who restarted yesterday also have good timing to get to the first buoy fast, but they need to make more progress before their time to the first buoy can be estimated with confidence. And of course, we still have 77 days of racing, so there will be 30-40 more days of viable starting opportunities before it's too late to finish a start. I'm hoping to finish my first run in time to do a second one.
The reality with this kind of event is that sometimes good starts wind up being bad finishes because those starters encounter terrible conditions later... and sometimes the winner is someone who started in slow conditions and got something wonderful later. All you can do is race to the finish as fast as possible and see what happens when you get there.
With all that said... I thought the VR Rankings page would show the "first buoy" ranking when we get there... For Spindrift, it shows that for each gate, after you get there. Is it not showing that for boats who have gotten there?
